Identify the sensors

Read the specification for each metric. A device may measure particles, carbon dioxide, humidity or a combination, and differently named estimates are not interchangeable. An air-quality display is not a substitute for a certified smoke or carbon-monoxide alarm.

Place it for a fair observation

Follow the placement guidance and avoid moving it repeatedly between a windowsill, cooking area and desk. Direct breath, steam or a nearby source can dominate a reading. Choose a representative position and allow the device’s specified stabilisation time.

Look for repeatable patterns

Note occupancy, cooking and ventilation alongside the readings. Compare similar conditions over several days rather than reacting to every brief spike. A persistent concern deserves investigation of the source and, where appropriate, professional advice rather than a purchase based on one coloured indicator.
