Identify before unplugging
Photograph the connections and trace one cable at a time. Add labels at both ends using room or device names. If a connection is unknown, leave it in place until you understand it rather than disconnecting the whole network at once.
Group with some slack
Use reusable ties and allow gentle curves behind each device. Keep connectors accessible and avoid putting tension on a wall socket. Separate the route from hinges, chair wheels and areas where cleaning tools are pushed behind furniture.
Leave room for diagnosis
Avoid sealing every connector inside a box that requires dismantling to inspect. Keep status lights visible where practical and retain the router’s ventilation space. After arranging the cables, check a wired device, a wireless device and any equipment that depends on continuous access.
